It is located in a protected area, therefore mooring is prohibited in the south area, where a large reef extends still intact. The mooring area is arranged by the Mustique Company and requires payment. On land, beside the famous Basil’s bar, there are the typical fishermen’s houses with lively colours. At the centre of the village, there is the fish market. A funny taxi driver, Johnny P (channel 68 and telephone (784) 5306285) will certainly help you out for any request. It is the second city of the island and was founded by the French in 1746 at the bottom of the homonymous bay. The famous Pitons, the two twin-volcanos, seem to stand to protect what is today, after the ancient splendour which is testified by some richly decorated houses, a simple but suggestive fishermen’s village which gets lively with the arrival of the catamarans cruising in the Caribbean and towards the Grenadines. The territory is of volcanic nature and the big bay facilitates mooring and stocking up, in the small but well supplied stores.
There are also small typical restaurants on the hills, from which it is possible to enjoy a marvellous view of the two Pitons. From the city, it is possible to do excursions in taxi at Sulphurous springs and to the Botanical Garden.
Le Marin can be considered the most important base south of the Antilles, thanks to the haulage structures and numerous services of the sector that can be found. It is the departure point for many holidays on sailing boats in the Caribbean, Antilles and towards the Grenadines.
The tourist port hosts about 600 boats.
On land, the nautical services are many.
The presence of the harbour customs and office facilitate the completion of possible bureaucratic formalities.
In addition to the numerous and typical shops, there are also supermarkets for buying groceries, and restaurants where it is possible to taste many local delicious dishes.
Located north of the East Bay, is part of a nature reserve established to protect the most beautiful marine sites of the west coast thanks to its beautiful coral reef.
