Park Roches Gravèes

Near the port of Trois Rivières there is the archaeological park Roches Gravèes, where are rocks engraved with drawings made by a pre-Columbian people: the Atawak.

It is into a botanical park, rich of wonderful trees and tropical flowers.

Indian River

A wide fleet of local boats offers to the tourists the possibility to go into the island through rivers and canals.

Young people have formed an association called " Indian River Guides Association " and they make you go up the river through the thick mangroves without using engines and completely respecting the environment.

Along this river they performed some scene of the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean

Portsmouth

It is the most accessible place of the savage island, with a beach lightly lapped by luxuriant palm groves.

Little restaurants, very simple, offer their hospitality to the tourists.

The town of Portsmouth, which points out on the wide Rupert Bay, is the point of departure for the excursions into the island: who will venture, will watch the villages with the poor houses of the local inhabitants, descendants of the ancient Caribbeans.

Its name maybe means “Land facing east winds”: the splendid beach of fine sand is protected by the coral reef.

If you dock in Baie de St-Luois it’s good for you to reach this beach by hiring a car: in less than 40 minutes you can go though the whole island.
